x-men-origins asked: Your role has been re-opened. Sorry to have lost you.

I would have loved to be able to continue this RP, but four senior-level literature courses and an internship is making that impossible for the time being. So sorry. -Chels

Tough crowd. It seems that my curve ball didn’t work… the X-factor popped up again but I was able to reabsorb him before any real damage was done. I can’t seem to win one lately.

Jamie was silent for what seemed like a long time after hearing her speak, her words ringing true with her last statement cutting through the bullshit and getting to the point. He looked down on at the passing cars, felt the cool night air chilling his skin and heard Erik nervously manipulating a small, metallic coin. It would be so easy.. to just jump. When one can live many different ways, no one way is ever quite the most exciting one and this one was as good as any.

This was not the time for introspective soul-searching and so he cleared his throat and spoke in a cool, even voice: “You’re right Mystique, I haven’t been hit by the cure.. though sometimes I think I should… being what I am isn’t easy. But hell, i’m not here to get melodramatic on you so i’ll get to the point. There are rumors circulating around from reliable sources…” Hehe.. me, basically… but technically Johnson. “.. that the humans are being whipped into a frenzy by a few anti-mutant agitators. Daniel Reddings is the local agitator and it seems he’s got a sizable military-trained “personal anti-mutant” army being built. And as you well know, since the revelation of the cure.. most mutants are not willing to do what must be done. They either lost their nerve as they watched it become a weapon.. or wish to board the train and become human just like the rest of the world. Our group was disbanded a while ago.. and now we find ourselves short-changed. We..” Jamie gulped audibly, his mouth dry and his voice cracking with something akin to indignation. “We need anything we can get.. We need your help, Mystique.

And in true awkward Jamie humor way, he slipped a small sentence in the conversation as a barely audible whisper: “And.. Erik misses you.. as do I.”

Not knowing specifically if he cared enough.. the burgeoning personalities within him fighting to the fore… he held his breath.

Mystique stiffened at the mention of anti-mutant fervor. Mutant-haters were getting more and more active, lately. She felt her lip curl up in a snarl of pure hatred.

“I’d be willing to bet Reddings is just a pawn. Check his associations. See if he has connections in the Friends of Humanity. I heard that Graydon Creed is planning something big for the mutant community. He wants to destroy all of us…because he’s my son. Sabretooth is his father. How he didn’t inherit the x-gene I’ll never know, but he hates us for being different. For being better than he is. He can’t stand that.”

She had to exert extreme self-control to keep from putting her fist through a wall.

“I miss being good for something,” Mystique sighed. “But right now, I’m trying to repair what little relationship I have left with my daughter. If you and Erik need me, really need me, you’re going to have to wait.”

Ouch… my pride. Do not lose your head Jamie.. Ooh.. Idea. A small tap is heard through the phone as Prime tapped the railings of his porch overlooking the busy streets and brought out a dupe. The compassionate and sympathetic part of me… he has patience and is the most adequate for this.. this better work, we need her. Prime soundlessly passed the phone to his dupe and stayed close to monitor the situation.

Mystique.. you speak the truth. I cannot justify my actions any more than the Periplaneta Australisae can turn into a hovering cricket and I am sorry. I.. have many times thought of trying to contact you and to apologize but as you well know pride gets in the way of such things. I understand your anger Mystique, if I was anywhere near your situation I would be doubly angry. I would feel betrayed, angry, belligerent, destructive, and spiteful towards those who you feel have crossed you. I would never give them the time of day like you are giving me now. It denotes that you are a much better person than I am and I would appeal to this part of you. I appeal to one of the most beautiful parts of yourself.. your compassionate and sympathetic part. I cannot speak for Erik, not completely, but I have seen that he still cares about you. Even though he will not speak of it, he still cares about that mutant that took the proverbial bullet for him. I cannot say what he truly wants from you.. but I am sure that he at least wants you back with us.” His voice turned stronger, driving the point home. “Mystique, I cannot stress enough that at that moment we acted incorrectly. You are still one of us no matter the circumstances. We should have never have left you.. we should have..” His voice breaks. “We should have… we should have.. we should have been there for you. More literally than you know.. I could have made more of myself.. I could have blocked the weaponized cure.. I could have done.. much more. And I’m damn sorry! Damn it, Mystique.. We’re sorry! With that, the act was done… the calculating part from within Jamie probably having escaped through compassion and sympathy.

“And we were able to contact you through sources that we may not disclose, but worry not, your daughter took no part in our locating you. Mystique, we do wish you back with us.” If only for the fact that she was a great asset to our cause. No, damn it.. she was one of us. She was!.. No… she is!

Prime, anger welling within him as he communicated with his dupe, absorbed him on the spot and picked up the phone: “Mystique…”

Mystique listened in silence to all that Madrox had to say, scarcely less angry than she’d been when she picked up the phone. She chewed on her bottom lip for a few moments before she spoke.

“You haven’t been hit with the cure, Madrox. You can’t possibly understand what this feels like, having your powers ripped away against your will.”

Mystique shook violently and had to force herself to take several deep breaths. Self-control, Mystique, don’t lose it.

“You called me for a reason, Madrox. What do you want?”

call-me-rogue:

Prime was surprised, something that didn’t happen too often seeing as he normally had a good control of the situation due to his many strategically placed dupes.. but this was a bit of a shock. Johnson was one of the best in the business.. but he didn’t trust himself.. I mean Johnson.. to be this good. What should I say?…

A few seconds passed with complete silence and then Jamie knew he had to say something. I’ll be direct.. beating around the bush won’t help.: “Raven, I presume? Or should I just call you Mystique? This is.. Madrox, James Madrox.. and I.. am speaking on behalf of..” Should I?.. I hope this works. .. on behalf of Erik.”

He let the silence hang in the air and waited for her to speak.

Mystique shot a blank stare at the wall for more than a few moments before snapping out of her stunned reverie.

“Mystique. Call me mystique; I don’t answer to my slave name.”

She felt the fine hairs at the nape of her neck stand up at the last name she was expecting to hear. Erik. One of the guys she’d been in the mobile prison with. One of the men she’d helped rescue was on the other end of the line. One of the men who walked away with Erik after she took the hardest hit of her lifetime. The cure.

“What could Erik possibly want with me now, or has he forgotten that I came between him and that guard’s cure weapon. I’m not one of you any more, remember? And what did you do? Nothing. You could have said something. Anything, and you just walked away with him.”

Her voice was getting more and more venomous by the second, and she was shaking with fury.

“And I want to know how the hell you got this number. If you did anything to my daughter to get it, I’ll tear you apart. I may be cured, but I’m still a really damn good shot. Do you understand me?”

call-me-rogue:

Rogue laughed, glad that Mystique had not changed and that she was still the same person  Rogue used to stay up with all night, laughing and talking with. “Wow, you’se good,” Rogue said once Mystique finished her plan, “But don’t worry, he ain’t nothin’ i can’t handle.” Rogue shrugged, “‘M sure i’ll figure somethin’ out. You just worry ‘bout yourself, kay?”

Mystique chuckled, loving the sound of her daughter’s laughter. “I’m sure you can handle him, baby girl. I have faith in your abilities.”

She smiled and pressed the phone to her ear just a little harder for a second. “I can’t help worrying about you, Rogue. You take care, okay?”

jamieprime:

Jamie Prime watched Erik and nodded, his normally jovial face becoming stern and hard. He felt a twinge of pity as he watched a few emotions flitting through his normally impassive face and he took a decision. I.. I will call Mystique. Hopefully this is the damn number. I.. I’m sure Erik still…

Mystique frowned for a moment as her cell phone rang. She looked at the screen, seeing an unknown number. Her gut told her that it wasn’t Rogue, not yet. It had to be someone else…but no one else was supposed to have this number. A scowl made her purse her lips as she pressed the answer button.

“Who is this?”

Her voice was only slightly less than hostile, and she was seriously considering getting her number changed.
